EC submits anti-Russian sanction proposals to EU representatives

BRUSSELS, Dec 8 (PRIME) -- The European Commission (EC) has submitted its proposals on new anti-Russian sanctions to the representatives of the E.U. member states, discussion is going on, EC spokesman Eric Mamer said in a news briefing on Thursday.

“We have presented the proposals given to the member states. We will not comment on that until the states reach an agreement on this issue,” he said.

On Wednesday, European Commission’s Head Ursula von der Leyen said that the proposals include sanctions against Russia’s energy sector, including a ban on investment in the mining industry, and sanctions against four Russian television channels.

The Financial Times reported that the possible sanctions also include export controls on technologies, targeted sanctions against another 180 individuals, export controls on dual-use products worth more than 2.3 billion euros and a ban on dealings with Russian marketing and market research companies.

The E.U. may approve the new sanctions package during a December 12 meeting of the E.U. foreign ministers.
